The fourteenth season of concerts is now underway. The next concert will be on 25th November and will be a shared one with Giggleswick music students and the Ellison String Quartet. This will be a popular evening as we did a similar one last year and so many commented favourably about it we decided to repeat in a similar manner.
The first concert of the new season took place with the High Sheriff of Lancashire being present and the Director of Fund Raising for N W Air Ambulance receiving our first charity cheque for £750 from part of the proceeds from the last season. Jacqui Nuttall said how much the charity relied on such to keep the three helicopters flying and offered the collective appreciation for it.
Harry Nowakowski-Fox the pianist started the evening with a superb performance of Beethoven’s popular piano concerto in three movements which was followed by him accompanying Alisa Liubarskaya on the cello. I persuaded him to do another piano solo to begin the second half. The quality and standard of the playing from both of them was of the highest order, but sadly most of the music was not well known and for the Padiham audience [me included] more popular pieces would have been better!.
Harry and Alisa were to be married some two weeks after our concert and at the end Peggy Green a member of our subcommittee presented them with a small wedding present on behalf of the Chapel.
The High Sheriff and his wife though were both thrilled and delighted and asked to say few words at the end before our Minister did his much appreciated words of thanks.
